Canadian Representative for manufacturers in Denmark

Denmark has two recognized Danish test laboratories on ISED's list but no recognized Danish certification body, so the usual route is to measure at home and have a recognized body elsewhere issue the certificate on that data. RSP-100 section 4.1 applies either way: an applicant with a company address outside Canada appoints a Canadian Representative, and the certification body asks for the signed letter before it issues the IC number.

How certification runs from Denmark

The Canada–European Community mutual recognition agreement lets recognized European laboratories produce test data ISED accepts, and lets recognized European bodies issue ISED certificates. Denmark currently has the first and not the second. ISED's recognized laboratory list carries two Danish entries, EKTOS Testing & Reliability Services A/S and FORCE Technology; the recognized certification body list carries no Danish entry.

So the test report travels and the certificate is issued abroad — commonly in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, the UK or North America. That is a routine arrangement, not a problem: the point of the MRA is that the measurements do not have to be repeated. It matters only for scheduling, since the body issuing the certificate works to another country's calendar.

For a manufacturer whose FCC programme is already running, the shortest route is usually to let the North American certification body handling that file issue the ISED certificate from the same measurements.

Check ISED's current lists before planning around either route. Recognitions carry expiry dates and are renewed on a rolling basis.

Canadian Representative versus the RED authorised representative

They are different roles. The Radio Equipment Directive's Article 11 authorised representative holds the EU declaration of conformity and technical documentation and answers to EU market surveillance authorities. The ISED Canadian Representative answers ISED enquiries about one specific certification and provides audit samples at no charge to ISED, from an address in Canada, and holds no part of your technical file. It is appointed per certification rather than per product placed on the market.

Naming the EU authorised representative on the ISED application is a predictable cause of certification-body returns. See the requirement explained.

Practical notes

Entity naming. Use the registered legal form exactly — A/S, ApS, I/S — matching the CB's application and the CVR register. Mismatches between register and paperwork cause returns.

Long-lived products. Metering, industrial and medical products with long service lives raise the same question repeatedly: a certificate issued now may still be live in a decade, so how long does the appointment have to last? For as long as the product is offered on the Canadian market — see how long must a Canadian Representative be appointed.

Before you print. The Canadian manual's required notices must appear in English and in French under RSS-Gen section 9.3.1, whatever your domestic market uses. It is the most common finding on a first Canadian filing and the most expensive to fix late. Run nine checks before you print, or have us run them: label and manual review, US$249 per IC certification number.

Fee and timing. US$499 per certified product, paid once, for as long as the product is offered on the Canadian market. No renewal, no second invoice, revisions free with no time limit. Card through Stripe clears immediately; wires from Danish banks arrive in one to two banking days. We invoice in US dollars. Copenhagen is six hours ahead of Ottawa, so a Danish morning order is normally issued by the Danish afternoon.

Audit samples. Shipped from Denmark to ISED's laboratory in Canada at the applicant's cost, documented as a regulatory sample; we coordinate. See ISED audit samples.

Can a Danish laboratory's test report be used for Canadian certification?

Yes, where the laboratory is recognized by ISED. Two Danish laboratories appear on ISED's current list; confirm the status and scope of the one you intend to use before relying on it.

Is there a Danish certification body that can issue the IC certificate?

Not on ISED's current list. Danish applicants normally use a recognized body elsewhere in Europe or in North America, working from the Danish test data.

Our product will be sold in Canada for fifteen years. What happens to the appointment?

It lasts as long as the product is offered on the Canadian market. The fee is paid once and there is no renewal date and no second invoice.

Is our EU authorised representative enough for Canada?

No. The roles have different scopes in different jurisdictions. You need the Canadian Representative as well.

Do we need a new letter for each model?

No. One letter covers an IC certification number and every model, HVIN and PMN listed under it. A new IC number is a new certification.
